Forging: 1050 to 850℃, slowing cooling in furnace.
Heat Treatment tool steel DIN 1.2080 / AISI D3
Annealing: 800 to 850℃, slow cooling in furnace (10-20℃/hr), down to approx. 600℃, cooling in air. Hardness after annealing: max. 250HB.
Stress relieving: approx. 650℃, slow cooling in furnace. Hold in neutral atmosphere for 1 to 2hours.
Hardening: 930 to 960℃, oil, salt bath(220 to 250℃ or 500 to 550℃), quenching in forced air, for thickness up to 30mm. Hardness obtainable, 63 to 64 HRC.
Tempering: As required. Slowly heating to tempering temperature right after hardening. Recommended to temper 2 or 3 times to increase toughness.

Properties of tool steel DIN 1.2080 / AISI D3
Classic high chromium cold work steel. High wear resistance due to its ledeburitic structure, very good deep hardening properties and dimensional stability. Moderate toughness.
Applications of tool steel DIN 1.2080 / AISI D3
High performance blanking and punching dies for sheet thickness up to 3 mm; circular and flat shear blades for sheet thickness up to 2 mm; cold drawing tools, broaches; tools for the production of nails, screws, nuts and rivets; cold extrusion tools; cold hobbing tools; flanging rolls; guide rolls; rollers of all shapes for continuous production of steel tubes and profiles; cold forming tools for ceramics and powder metallurgy and similar tools.
