Heat Treatment of Cold work tool steel 1.2842 / O2
Annealing: 700 to 730℃, slow cooling in furnace (10-20℃/hr), down to approx. 600℃, cooling in air. Hardness after annealing: max. 230HB.
Stress relieving: approx. 650℃, slow cooling in furnace. Hold in neutral atmosphere for 1 to 2hours.
Hardening: 790 to 820℃, oil. Quenching: oil. Hardness obtainable, 60 to 64 HRC.
Tempering: Slowly heating to tempering temperature right after hardening. Recommended to temper 2 or 3 times to increase toughness.

Properties of Cold work tool steel 1.2842 / O2
Oil hardening type cold work steel. Good dimensional stability, edge retaining and toughness. Deep hardening properties can be considered as good for smaller and medium-sized sections.
Applications of steel 1.2842 / O2
Blanking and punching dies for sheet thickness up to 6 mm; small straight and circular shear blades, also for paper and plastics; thread cutting tools; gauges and other measuring tools; cold trimming tools; small inserts for plastic moulds and similar tools.
