Plastic Mold Steel / Cold Work Tool Steel 1.2316 ---- is martensitic stainless chromium steel for plastic moulds, high corrosion resistance than 1.2083, resistant to chemical attack, excellent wear resitance, uniform hardness in all dimensions, easy to machine, high surface finish and polishability. Not suitable for nitriding and chrome plating because of the high chrome content. This grade can be produced on request by the process in hardened and tempered, soft annealed and ESR condition.
Typical Chemical Composition (%)
Heat Treatment of Steel 1.2316
Annealing: 780 to 800℃, slow cooling in furnace (10-20℃/hr), down to approx. 600℃, cooling in air. Hardness after annealing: max. 250HB.
Stress relieving: approx. 650℃, holding time:1 to 2hours.slow cooling in furnace.
Hardening: 1000 to 1040℃, oil. Quenching: oil. Hardness obtainable, 52 HRC.
Tempering: Slowly heating to tempering temperature right after hardening. Recommended to temper 2 or 3 times.

Properties of Steel 1.2316
Good resistance to corrosion, subject to surface being perfectly polished after heat treatment.
Applications of Steel 1.2316
Moulds for corrosive thermoplastic material. Chromizing is not necessary. These two grades allow very high polish. They are generally supplied pretreated to 800-1100 N/mm2 according to request.
